I can’t tell you how many different business ideas I’ve heard over the years and it’s really hard to tell which ones are actually going to make some real money.
So when I picked up the eGuide from JustAddSweat.com on how to start your own recipes blog I wasn’t too sure how someone could possibly go about turning their love of cooking into a profitable business venture.
After reading the guide, though, I can see how easy it is to get started and how much value and quality a blog site with targeted recipes can bring to its readers.
JoAnne and Nicole have done a great job of putting together a guide that will give anyone who wants to start this type of blog the tools they need to get going right away.
What’s included:
One thing that’s great about this guide is the step by step instructions, audio and videos that guide you through setting up your first blog. As you’re reading through you can have your blog set up in a very short period of time by following what’s been laid out for you. There are audio and video portions to go with these blog setup instructions too, so you learn by your preferred method.
The use of an article on copywriting seems a little out of place to me, though. I think some people who are new to internet businesses may not relate blogging and copywriting together (though they are certainly very related) and may feel intimidated by the idea of having to be a ‘copywriter’ for their blog.
In the appendix section there is a list of everything you need for setting up your business and blog, which is great for people just starting out.
There is real value in this product and for one great price you get a 35-page eGuide, a SweatStory Success interview, audio blog tips, bonus Time Management Guide and a 2007 Blogging Calendar.

How to attain success with your online home business is a subject that can easily give you information-overload. However, applying just a few fundamental rules will inevitably lead you to success.
The Success Recipe for Home Based Business Owners

2 cups Planning
1 tbsp Funds
1 Product – to begin with
1 cup Diligence
1/2 cup Patience
2 cups Persistence

Method:
1. Planning:
This is the foundation on which you will be building your business, so it stands to reason that you should spend a good chunk of time on this.
First of all, you’ll need to know which niche you’ll be targeting. If you already know, then it’s easy. If not, this will require thorough research in various forms.
a.) Niche research – You can see what topics are currently the most popular by visiting 43Things.com andSpringwise.com. There are, of course, many more ways to find a niche, but those 2 places will give you a quick overview of the things people want. Springwise also has a huge database of new business ideas based upon trends.
b.) Keyword research – Once you have decided on a niche, you will then need to see which keyword phrases are actually going to be worth investing your time in.
A good place to start is Google’s free keyword research tool. This will give you excellent up to date data.
I won’t be going into the nitty-gritty of keyword research here as it’s a rather large topic by itself. A small piece of advice, though… Keep your mind flexible by looking at the topics from different angles. For example, a wish to learn Japanese doesn’t necessarily have to be just that. It also means that those people most likely have an interest in Japan, the country, so your business could also be about, for example, traveling to Japan.
2. Funds:
Let’s face it, you will need money to a certain extent if you want to start a business, be it online or offline. Your available capital will also determine how long it will take to get your business rolling. The more funds you have, the less time it will require to get your business up and going. The less funds you have, the more time you will need to invest in the preparation and marketing of your business.
Depending on your niche, the funds you will be needing will vary greatly so I won’t hazard a guess here as to how much you’ll actually need. But, since the majority of your funds will most likely initially go into promoting your business, it stands to reason that the less competition you have, the less funds you’ll need – or the less time you’ll need to invest.
3. Product:
If you’re going to run a business, you naturally need a product. This can either be your own product, or one created by another person or business.

1. Create one from scratch. This is by far the best and most profitable way to go, but needless to say, it’s also the most time-consuming and costly option – unless you have a wide variety of skills yourself.
This is definitely the way I recommend you take, but it will depend on how serious you are about your online business, and how long you intend to run it.
2. Use a product with Private Label Rights (PLR) and recreate it as your own. This is the easiest solution to having your own product, and ultimately the cheapest. Private Label Rights products allow you to modify an already-created product and put your name on it as if it were your own.
One thing to remember, though, is that the product is most likely being used by hundreds of other people in the same position as you, so you will need to spend time on making it as unique as possible.
b.) Reselling someone else’s product – this is essentially what affiliate marketing is. This is an easy way out, but it does have it’s hurdles since the Internet is full of people making a full-time living as professional affiliate marketers.
The good news is, there is still plenty of room in the smaller niches. If you’re tight on funds and time, then this is definitely an option you will want to look into. Just remember that you will be needing multiple products to promote in this case since you’re only getting a small percentage of the sales price.
Hint: If you’re not going for affiliate marketing at this time, it’s still a good thing to keep in mind for an additional income source later on.
4. Diligence, Patience and Persistence:
These 3 go hand-in-hand. One thing that many people entering the online marketing arena don’t reckon with is that it’s like creating any other offline business. Nothing happens instantly. There is no silver bullet. The “overnight millionaire” dream is a fantasy – it simply doesn’t exist.
Granted, there are many Internet marketers who claim to have made millions – and some of them are true. They tell their story as though it happened overnight, but they don’t tell you about all the time – sometimes years – and money – usually thousands, even tens of thousands – they spent on laying the foundation for their “overnight” success.
Everybody has to take a “first step”. Once you’ve taken your first step, you then have to take your “second step”. And the only way you can finally walk is to keep at it – step by step.
Be diligent – don’t be lazy. Customers have a knack for spotting laziness. Keep in mind, your reputation is on the line.
Be patient – don’t expect anything to happen instantly. Marketing and promoting your business can be a lengthy endeavor, and you will need to give your actions time to mature. But with patience and persistence, you will eventually reap the benefits.
And lastly, keep going. As with any business, you need to build a track record. The longer your history is as an ethical and trusted business, the more people will be able to entrust their money to you.
Another bit of advice… If you want to really succeed online, diversify. You will need more than one venture to get the income you need. But don’t think of each venture as a business. Think of them all together as your business.
It can be likened to an apartment building. Each apartment is a venture, and together they form a building – your business. And, once you have laid a strong enough foundation, you can take your building as high and as wide as you like. That’s the hidden secret to online success.
